Outdoor Recreation Specialist at lifebloodaustralia Ltd
16 years designing accessible hiking experiences across Irish nature reserves, with expertise in senior-friendly woodland trails and inclusive outdoor education.
Siobhán's journey into outdoor recreation began during her studies at University College Galway. She volunteered with local conservation groups around Galway Bay while earning her degree in Environmental Science. After graduating, she spent five years with the Irish Wildlife Trust managing protected habitats before joining Coole Park Nature Reserve in 2016.
Over her eight years at Coole Park, she's developed extensive expertise in trail accessibility. She's personally surveyed and improved more than 12 kilometres of woodland pathways to accommodate visitors with varying mobility levels. Her breakthrough came in 2019 when she pioneered Coole Park's 'Easy Stride' programme — an initiative that's since welcomed over 2,000 senior walkers annually.
What drives her work is straightforward: age and physical ability shouldn't be barriers to experiencing Ireland's natural heritage. Her approach prioritises evidence-based trail design, seasonal maintenance protocols, and detailed route planning that takes into account gradient, surface conditions, and rest points. She holds a postgraduate qualification in Outdoor Education from Waterford Institute of Technology and continues to lead training for other outdoor recreation professionals across Ireland.
